Glossary

Paper

Choosing paper is of utmost importance in order to perfect a job. Properties of paper can be specified by its weight, brightness, and opacity.
Weight - Weight is generally measured by the size of 500 sheets (a ream) of paper.
Brightness - Brightness refers to the degree of light a sheet reflects in the range of 0 to 100%.
Opacity - Opacity refers to the degree of see-through from a scale of 0 to 100. A sheet with high opacity prevents objects from being visible from the opposite side of sheet.

Finishing

Paper finishing refers to the surface characteristics of printed paper.
UV Coating - UV coating is applied as a thin layer on the surface of the paper and cured through an exposure to high intensity of UV light. This produces a high degree of shine particular in areas of high toner density.
Gloss Coating - Gloss coating is applied to paper at the time of printing and provides a high level of shine. As one of the most eco-friendly finishing, it provides a hard, smooth and mirror shine feeling on the surface of paper.

Packaging

Packaging can be divided into metal packs, paper packs, plastic packs etc.

Embossment / Debossment

Embossment is a special kind of stamping that produces raised texture on your paper while debossment produces the indention on the other hand.
Dry Embossment - Dry embossment is done by stencil with some paper over it and used stylus to produce the raised effect.
Heat Embossment - Heat embossment is done by stamping an image on a piece of paper, powder is sprinkled over the stamp and heat is then applied to get the raised image of text.

Recycled Copy Paper

Using recycled paper helps preserving the environment by consuming less water, energy and chemicals. Recycled paper can be divided into post-consumer waste (PCW) and / or processed chlorine free (PCF).
PCW - The Environmental Protection Agency required a minimum of 30% PCW to allow paper to be called "recycled".
PCF - Totally chlorine free refers to the bleaching process of paper without using chlorine or any chlorine derivates.
